Limerick Poems

Here are some limerick poems I wrote just now:

Limerick #1

There once was a girl named Jane.
She loved to play in the rain.
Oh, but then one day,
The rain went away.
So Jane thought the day was plain.

Limerick #2

There once was a boy named Nick,
And he had a ball to kick.
But then it got lost.
It froze in the frost.
So now Nick plays with a stick.

150th Post!!!

Finally! Today is my 150th post on this blog! I forgot to do 100th post but I'm now doing every hundred posts. I was going to blog about tech week for The Mikado, then I was going to write a game review on Yokai Watch, but I looked at my posts and figured out that this is the 150th! Usually my Hundredth post posts will be short, so this one will be too!

Mornings (Again)

Mornings have always been difficult for me. But now they just keep on getting stranger. With all this summer warmth, I have to use the fan in my room to go to sleep without bursting into flames. But by the time I wake up, I'm freezing cold again. So here I am in my house covered by a warm blanket in the middle of spring. Confusing, right?

Mikado Costume Fitting

Today I had a costume fitting for the Mikado, and right now I want to watch "The Voice" so I'll keep this short. The Mikado has some really cool costumes. Our performance has Pokemon on the robes and stuff like that. They're really cool. I have a green shirt, red pants, and a robe with comic book things like POW! and BAM!

This video is the Mikado's song "I am so Proud"... which they cut :( !

Persuasive Essay Written in March

This is the essay I was tasked to write about anything I wanted to, so I chose protecting zoos from getting taken down. Here it is:

Polk Penguin House in Detroit

African Fish Eagle in its natural habitat
Did you know that zoos provide more than just entertainment? Zoos provide scientists with research so they can learn more about species they don’t know as much about. Some people think that zoos treat animals horribly and don’t care about the animals. I believe that zoos should be kept and preserved as animal sanctuaries because they provide care for the animals. I know this because the animals are happy in zoos, endangered animals are protected, and the animals are prevented from boredom.

One reason zoos should be protected is that animals are happy in zoos. Don Moore from the Smithsonian National Zoological Park in Washington, D.C. says that, “Professional zookeepers know their animals as well as people at home know their dogs.” This means that people at zoos know how their animals feel the same way that pet owners know their pets. Zoos try to replicate the animal’s natural habitats and then some. At the Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago, Illinois, chimpanzees can play around and eat the termites in their habitats. According to Steve Feldman, senior vice president of the AZA, the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, “The animals are well nourished, treated by veterinarians, and protected from predators and parasites. As a result, animals live longer in zoos than in the wild.” This shows animals are protected from all dangers. Clearly, animals are happy in zoos.

Another reason zoos should be kept and preserved is that zoos prevent boredom in animals. Some cheetahs at zoos love to play around with perfume. People who work in the Detroit zoo in Michigan put sticks from the zebra habitat and zebra poop in a box and then put that box in the lion habitat. Boredom is bad and/or dangerous. According to Marc Bekoff, a biologist at the University of Colorado, Boulder, “They can exhibit [repetitive] pacing, self-mutilation, hyperaggressiveness, and loss of appetite.” Obviously, zoos care for their animals and will do anything to make sure that nothing happens to these animals.

Additionally, zoos protect the extinction of endangered animals. Many zoos have breeding programs. Some species saved were the Arabian Oryx, the Przwalski’s Horse, and the Black-Footed Ferret. This shows that zoos have reintroduced endangered species into the wild. At the St. Louis zoo, researchers are trying to reintroduce an endangered salamander into the wild. According to Steve Feldman of the AZA, “If zoos didn’t exist, they’d have to be invented.” Since there are so little tigers in the wild, zoos take care of their tigers. So, zoos will do anything in their power to get animals back into the wild.

Some people think that zoos treat animals horribly. On Christmas Day 2007, a Siberian Tiger named Tatiana attacked three men and killed 1 after jumping over the wall of her enclosure, which was not up to the standard. Later, police shot and killed the tiger. However, those 3 men were taunting Tatiana and were drunk and using drugs. Tigers can’t cope with the smell of alcohol and will be violent towards people who are drinking. So really, these animals only attack when they’re provoked.

As I said before, zoos should be protected and kept because they care for their animals, predator or prey. I know this since animals are happy in zoos, they protect endangered animals, and they prevent boredom in animals. I know you understand that zoos were inhumane to their animals in the past. But I encourage you to stand up for your local zoo.

Mornings

Sigh! I just wish that I could have woke up earlier so I didn't have do this right before we left for school! Tuesday mornings are really hard for me since I have opera every Monday night and we usually go from 5:30-8:30. We're almost in tech week (not again!{duhn-duhn-duhn}) so we're really rushing to get everything prepped for the show.

Tech Week is Over!!

I can't believe that tech week for Macbeth is finally over! I didn't see it, but I know that we had a great performance on opening night. The final dress rehearsal (that one I was in) was great in my opinion, but I believe that the performance on April 16th was better. Now here comes the fun part. I'm not IN the show until April 24th, so all I need to do is wait for my performance.

Free Day

Finally!! A day with NO Macbeth rehearsals in this entire week! Its not that I don't like them, its just they're LONG! I have one of the shortest parts in the entire opera. I'm putting a video just to show you how long I have to wait to be on/how long I wait until the curtain call (It's the whole opera. I'm on in Act III which is about 1:14:20-1:32:30). My role is double-casted, which means that I'm onstage sometimes and my friend Matteo Popadopolous. Matteo's preforming opening night (this Saturday), the Wednesday preformance (next Wednesday) and the 2nd Saturday preformance (next Saturday). I'm preforming in the open dress rehearsal this Friday morning (that's why I'm missing school) and closing night on Sunday, April 24.

I Have Drowsiness Today! (Imagine Title in Singsong)

If you read the title, you'll wonder why I'm drowsy on a Wednesday morning. It all started April 10, 2016 when tech week began for Macbeth by Guiseppe Verdi. That day was the Sitzprobe, the first rehearsal with both the cast and orchestra. (If you don't remember this stuff, please read A Night of Opera, my post yesterday) Today we did a complete run-through with costumes (dress rehearsal). We stayed up 'til around11:30 because of this rehearsal.

A Night of Opera

Yesterday was the second rehearsal on the stage for the MOT's production of "Macbeth" by Giuseppe Verdi. Shakespeare wrote the original play but Verdi turned into an opera. Before the Sitzprobe (a run through on the stage but when you're done, you sit down and watch until your next part), I had only seen a big piece of Act III, which is where Macbeth revisits the witches and 3 apparitions (one of which I will be splitting [this right role is double casted] between me and my friend Matteo. In other news, that very same night was the understudy run-through for "The Mikado" by Gilbert and Sullivan. I was kind of excited because I AM an understudy for Ko-Ko, the Lord High Executioner. I can't really say much about it except I think we (the understudies) all did very well. That run-through was the first time for some people. Overall, my night of opera was busy, but AWESOME!!
